Yes, Oregon Has Cancrinite!
Oregon Cancrinite
Oregon Cancrinite Crystal Upper Center,
Featuring the typical "woody" luster I find in
some occurrences of Oregon Cancrinite.
This crystal displays a yellowish gemmy
Cancrinite center revealed by the beach sand, over time..
Cancrinite is a Zeolite. It is often striated.
It is VOLCANIC, and typically found with other volcanic
phyllite (layered) minerals such as Apophyllite and Fluorapophyllite.
All three minerals are plentiful on the Southern Oregon Coast
in mostly prismatic forms as opposed to massive in the
crystallography, even the Cancrinite, of which I find large, colorful,
prismatic hexagonal crystals with an oxidized outer coating that is
often purplish-pinkish in color,
with a woody or pocked, or warped outer texture
that does not match the internal luster of the stones.
Prismatic Cancrinite is considered very rare, and
the colors are amazing. But they usually just look like
rocks so look for the shapes because the good stuff is hidden.
